Growing Crisp Lettuce in hydroponic greenhouse
Lettuce is one of the best crops for greenhouse NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) hydroponics. Inside the greenhouse, sloped channels carry a thin, continuous film of nutrient solution over plant roots. The lower root section touches the flowing nutrients and water, while the upper roots stay exposed to air for oxygen intake.
This closed recirculating design uses far less water than soil farming. With stable temperature, pH and EC controlled in the greenhouse, lettuce grows quickly and uniformly, ready for harvest in roughly 30 days. Clean roots mean less soil-borne disease and fewer pesticides, delivering tender, fresh lettuce.
NFT brings clear benefits for commercial leafy green production: high planting density, simple harvesting, and consistent crop quality. One key downside to watch: NFT relies on pumps. Any pump failure can dry roots rapidly, so monitoring and backup plans are essential for reliable operation.
For controlled-environment farms aiming for year-round salad greens, greenhouse NFT remains a proven, efficient choice for lettuce production.
